      Fine art appraisal demands knowledge of material culture–its history, qualities, and forms. It also demands a sophisticated understanding of objects and their markets–valuation methodology. Through the course of her professional career, Holly Mitchem, founder and principal of Mitchem Arts, has continued to develop her knowledge of fine art and its markets, and to hone her expertise as a valuation professional.

    As an Accredited Senior Appraiser with the American Society of Appraisers with over 25 years of fine art appraisal experience, Holly has valued a wide variety of fine art for charitable contribution, estate taxation, asset management, to assist with insurance coverage, and the settlement of damage and loss claims. She regularly brings her knowledge of fine art and its markets and professionalism to the courtroom, consulting in pretrial conference and testifying at trial, mediation, and arbitration proceedings. Holly's clients include private collectors, attorneys, insurance agents and adjusters, and asset management professionals who require unbiased, well-researched, highly qualified, logical, articulate, and confidential personal property appraisals. In addition, the firm advises clients on collection management and on the de-accessioning of fine art. All reports, consultations, and advisement are in conformance with the current requirements of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), as well as the Code of Ethics of the American Society of Appraisers.

     Holly's areas of expertise include 18th-21st century European, Spanish colonial, and American art in all media, including painting, sculpture, watercolor, gouache, collage, drawing, original prints, mixed media and posters. She regularly appraises modern and contemporary art of all types, including-based media and installation art. Over the past decade, Holly has developed a special proficiency in valuing significant works of art that require diligent provenance and market research, and in the valuation of artworks that require specialized methodologies and market models.
